"Writing on the

Biography

Born in Dallas, Texas, daughter of a seismographic pioneer in the growing oil industry, Sara Gaby Probasco grew up in Louisiana and Mississippi and graduated from University of Alabama with a BS in architectural interior design. Following graduation, she returned to Mississippi, where she engaged in post-graduate studies and worked in interior design, concentrating on building renovation for restaurant use. For many years, she also operated a successful bridal, florist, and gourmet party-catering service, "after hours."

Upon marrying a Texan in 1979, Sara returned to her native state, where she honed her skills in stained glass design and construction and opened her own commercial studio. This was later incorporated into her husband's locksmith and decorative door-hardware business. Intrigued by the locksmith industry, she took post-graduate courses in creative writing at Sul Ross University and began to write about her experiences and observations.

Writing has played an important role in Sara's life since her youth. As early as junior high school, she won awards for her poetry. In young adult years, she adapted, edited, and directed plays for children's audiences for the Community Children's Theater of Jackson (Mississippi), a talent she later extended to adult drama with Floyd County (Texas) Arts Association, which she helped found.

For several years, she published in the Floyd County Hesperian a humorous weekly newspaper column, "Laugh Lines," as well as a monthly column on the arts, "Keeping Posted."

Over the past twenty years, Sara has published more than three hundred stories and articles in various security- and service-related international publications, including Locksmith Ledger, The National Locksmith, and Crime Prevention Magazine. She has had one book published (Service With a Smile) and an audio-book sequel (MORE Service With a Smile) in addition to a recent cookbook (RECIPES & REMEMBRANCES) based on her earlier cater experiences, and now her first E-book, (Say YES! to SUCCESS in Business, a Handbook for Entrepreneurs Who PLAN to Succeed) released in June 2008.

In recent years, her fact-based stories have consistently taken first or second place as "first-read" and "most enjoyed" articles in surveys from more than 70,000 subscribers, worldwide. She has taken top honors in both short story and poetry in regional literary contests sponsored by Southwest Texas Junior College, and took fourth place out of eighty-seven entries in her division of SouthWest Writers' contest in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for her "urban fantasy" novel, ABRACADABRA.

ABRACADABRA was also a recent finalist from among over 300 entries in American Christian Fiction Writers' "Noble Theme" contest, where Sara's WWII novel, WINDOWS IN THE DARK, took first place in historical fiction.

Sara was nominated "Outstanding West Texas Woman of the Year" by West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas, and she served for several years as regional director for Texas Commission on the Arts.

In addition, she occasionally conducts small-business and motivational seminars, business ethics classes, and serves as keynote banquet speaker at conventions throughout the U.S. and in Canada.

Sara and her husband reside in a small town near San Antonio, Texas, where she spends much of her time in writing and public speaking.

She is an active member of First Baptist Church, American Christian Fiction Writers, SouthWest Writers, Texas Folklore Society, and The Authors Guild.
